Assembly Predicted To Continue Two More Weeks
Raleigh April 7 Fully two weeks more will be needed for the general assembly to finish even its most urgent work after three months in session. The senate debates the revenue bill and faces sections on sales and luxury taxes, electricity, gas, and telegraph service. If the senate completes the revenue bill by Thursday it must still pass third reading Saturday, then go to the house for concurrence and possible conference. The house appropriations bill stalls between factions over UNC funding and economy measures. A short bill to abolish several elective offices is also moving, with significant opposition from state officers impacted. Commissioner W A Graham, Commissioner Frank Grist, and the corporation commission face upheaval as reform bills advance.
