Washington April 6 the house banking committee approved a year extension of price control as urged by President Truman. A Republican bid for a nine month limit failed 13 to 9. The panel also barred six months of retailer cost absorption on auto and appliance prices by a 15 to 6 vote and backed a gradual end to federal subsidies starting July 1 1947 with a 25 percent cut and ending June 30 1947. The tie on manufacturer profits was 11 to 11.

Furniture workers at the Thomasville chair company voted 817 to 335 for CIO United Furniture Workers representation in six plants. The NLRB ordered the election after a petition by workers. Thomas B. Hart, 22, a Negro, was executed today in the state gas chamber at Central Prison Raleigh for the murder of Marjorie Blackwood and for second degree murder in the killing of her brother Al Preston Blackwood. The slayings occurred August 1. Chaplain William H. R. Jackson called the execution one of the easiest at Central Prison. Hart died about 70 minutes after entering the chamber at 10 oclock and bade farewell with a blessing.

Absentee Blanks Mailed To County Boards
RALEIGH April 5 Absentee ballots for the May Democratic primary congressional races have been prepared and will be distributed to county Boards of election early next week for service personnel. Secretary Maxwell said the state board of elections handles applications via Secretary Eure who reported fewer than 50 applications. In 1944 the board distributed 86,999 absentee ballots and received 46,583 properly filled ballots.
