Gary H. Long a 45 year old assistant postmaster at the Thomasville post office died while trying to save his wife and two year old grandson from High Rock lake. The drowning occurred at Abbott's Creek arm near Lexington around 3 p.m. Mrs Long and the child survived after wading to shore. The body was recovered an hour later by the Lexington Rescue Squad. The coroner listed the death as drowning with suspected heart attack from cold water.
