Washington April 2 Major bills of the 81st Congress awaited action with three months past and a possible July or August session. Truman’s program moved slowly as a big push for stop Communism foreign aid Atlantic Pact loomed. Some talk of a special session if arming European foes proved knotty.

Mrs. Mary Neal, 35, an employee at Belmont Hosiery Mill, was arrested on charges of theft. Officers found more than 500 pairs of socks at her home after a routine stop near Lowell. Neal admitted taking hosiery over a long period.

North Carolina reports March general fund revenue of 46,068,597 a rise of 84 608 828 over March 1948. Highway fund climbs to 3 822 418 up seven percent. Income tax totals 38 563 985 versus 34 328 405 year earlier, aided by the March 15 payment deadline. Sales tax reaches 2 762 037 up from 2 664 474, while motor vehicle inspection brings 115 875 despite abolished lanes by Feb 125 act.
Detroit April 2 The auto industry expects further price reductions in the next weeks as orders lag and competition heats up. His aide said he was taken to Emergency Hospital where doctors described his condition as good He had a cold and had been in hotel quarters but attended last night's senate session He was formerly president of the University of North Carolina and was sworn in last Tuesday to fill the late J Melville Broughton seat.
In Shropshire an RAF training drill pitted 70 airmen as spies against 260000 residents. The exercise hunted for agents and traitors to test defenses, with 48 spies rounded up and 18 jailed by evening. Rumors spoke of cloak and dagger roles and police complicity.
