Local Naval Man Wins Promotion

Car Abandoned in West Texas Hills Sparks Kidnap Search

PECOS Texas April 2 federal agents were called as Mrs Weston G Frome 46 from Berkeley and her daughter Nancy remain missing after an automobile abandoned in the Balmorhea area prompted a 10 mile square posse hunt. The husband an Atlas Powder company executive flew from California to aid the search. The car carried luggage and five gallons of gas. The women were en route to Parris Island to visit another daughter and carried about 125 dollars in cash plus jewelry and luggage.

Holdsclaw Must Serve For Year In North Carolina Case

Kohler Holdsclaw, once facing a death sentence in North Carolina, must remain in prison at least a year before parole review. Parole officials said the case will be examined March 12, 1939, a year after he reentered central prison to finish a 30-year term. He was recaptured in Michigan after living there 12 years as Frank Bentley and had been convicted in 1919 in Catawba county of first degree murder. the death sentence was commuted to 50 years by Governor Bickett. He escaped in 1927.

Veteran Charlotte Railroad Man Dies

Captain W. S. Bradley, 30, a veteran railroad man and former freight agent for the Seaboard Air Line in Charlotte, died at his home today. He retired from active duty in 1932.

Farmer sought as couple shot in Clinton house

Police said Carmen Tew, 21, a Clinton County farmer, was being sought in connection with the shooting of Grace Carter, 17, and Ronnie Smokes of New York at the Carter farm house near Clinton. Victims were hospitalized in Fayetteville in critical condition.
