State seeks 13 percent cut in auto insurance rates
North Carolina officials urge reduction in auto liability premiums by about 13 percent citing lower highway speeds and fewer accidents during the gasoline shortage. The move faces industry objections and goes to the state Court of Appeals. About 323 deaths this year compare with 402 last year. The case hinges on whether inflation or long term effects require caution before adjusting rates. No ruling for at least 45 days.
