Rain and snow mix expected in the northeastern quarter and rain in the Ohio and Tennessee valleys and across the upper South Atlantic and Gulf coast. Temperatures will be colder in the eastern half and warmer in the western half of the nation.
In Thomasville a bold thief stole two handbags from beneath a checkout counter at Bud's Super Market on National Highway around 9 p.m. yesterday and fled with about $350 in cash. Police had not captured him by late last night, though several witnesses saw the man. Mrs. Omer Lee Hooker and Mrs. Elizabeth Summey acknowledged their bags were beneath the counter. one bag was dropped momentarily outside but recovered before the thief escaped into traffic. Police continued inquiries late last night.
Rainy night indoors at High Point College Me morial Auditorium showcased barber shop harmony. The program featured a 50 year tradition with the Hi Tom Chapter SPEBSQA and three area quartets The Coachmen The Southern Aristocrats and The Dixie Colonels.

Judy Gilliam and Clark Dillon named Sub Junior and Junior Rotarians.
Arkansas Governor Orval E. Faubus announced on television that he would not seek a historic fifth term stating physical stress and a wish to write as reasons. He said he may consider running for governor again in the future but would not run in 1962.
Judy leads Future Homemakers of America and belongs to National Honor Society Junior Divinettes and Choralettes. Clark serves as Key Club president and Student Council vice president and earned Best All Around senior in April.
The new City County Building jail begins operations at 8 a.m. today. Prisoners will be housed there instead of City Hall jail. Transfers from the old jail to the county jail in Greensboro after Municipal Court sessions will end.
Gov. Terry Sanford announced the International Trade Fair for Charlotte scheduled April 27 to May 4 1963 with John R. Knott as chairman. The fair will invite all foreign exhibitors while excluding U S participants, aiming to boost North Carolina foreign trade and buyer access. Pearls noted as historical currency in colonial Venezuela.
