Rutherford College opens Aug 17 1910 catalog requests and address for Anderson Weaver, secretary.
J. M. Rhodes a former large Lincolnton manufacturer filed a bankruptcy petition through attorney A. A. Whitener. Liabilities exceed assets with personal liability not over 40,000 dollars. Endorsed notes for John Manufacturing Company of Kings Mountain and others contributed to financial ruin.
Lenoir college department held its opening on Tuesday with over 150 attendees and more expected as trains arrive. Howard A. Banks will deliver the opening address this evening. An informal reception will follow to help attendees get acquainted, and townspeople are invited.
Frank Schell of Conover was killed at Mt Savage Maryland on Tuesday when a ditching engine overturned and crushed him. His body is expected to return home today.
An organ recital on the new Estey organ at the Presbyterian Church featured Mrs J A Hatcher Miss Nina Ramsay and Miss Mary D Ramsey singing two solos. The program offered classic selections with praised soloists and an attentive large audience. The pastor reported on Winona Lake Bible Conference activities and upcoming addresses for youth. West Hickory notes electric mill work and rising postal receipts.
Miss Hattie Mingus and Sam Colter of the Ivey mill wed Saturday night then planned a visit in Claremont with the bride's parents. The Ivey vs Brookford baseball game ended with Brookford ahead 10 to 0. G T Barger hosted an ice cream social Saturday. A large young crowd reported a fine time. E D Brown’s daughter, sick for weeks, is improving. Mr Sherrill and family visited Caldwell county relatives Saturday. W A Deaton preached at the graded school building and formed the West Victory Evangelical Lutheran Church with thirty six members. J Eller, Ivey Mill room fixer, resigned for a higher paying job in Greensboro. Arthur Wilson expects a happy moment at home after the stork visit brought a daughter Friday. A Ellmore moved from Granite Falls and now works in the mill. Frank Williams of Brookford visited W R Williams over the weekend. West Hickory school trustees set October opening. Mr and Mrs Robert Burns of Asheboro visiting J Worth Elliott.
