Rev Harold Turner Dies After Stroke at Central Methodist Church

Reverend Harold Turner a prominent minister in the Western North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church South died in Concord after a stroke suffered while delivering a sermon. A Manchester, England native, he was 45 years old. The Methodist Philathea Class plans to start a class library with fifty new books next Sunday, with additions later to benefit members.

Hickory Society gathers for October study and party

The Thursday Study Club met October 8 in Mrs E A Smiths suburban home with Mrs Roy Abernethy presenting a chapter on the Pyramids and Sphinx. An elaborate four course luncheon followed. next meeting set for October 22 with Mrs George Bisa. The Martin Holt bridal party enjoyed a October 7 reception hosted by Mrs Grimes after fortune telling by Ada Schenck and a sequence of initial and ring exchanges. The Round Dozen Book Club opened its year on October 7 under Mrs C C Best with two new members welcomed and a three course luncheon by Miss Constance Bost.
