Panama Canal to stay closed until slides danger passes

The first heavy frost of this fall was observed Saturday morning in considerable quantity here. There may have been some frost the morning before on the lowlands, but no confirmation was received.

New World Record Set in 102.6 MPH Auto Race for Astor Cup
Wil Anderson set a new world speed record at 102.6 mph winning the 300 mile Astor Cup race at Sheaps Head Bay speedway in 3 hours 24 minutes 42 seconds. The event drew a crowded amphitheater as many top cars failed from mechanical trouble. 20 entrants started and over half retired. The Barnum and Bailey Circus announced a Charlotte appearance on October 26 with 1230 staff, 700 horses, 40 elephants and 480 performers. The circus features Lalla Rookh, a three ring program, and a grand parade heads at 10 A.M. with crowds urged to arrive early.

Tragedy as two Buckner boys die in Saun ders siding quarrel
Rocky Mount Oct 8 Willie Buckner seventeen, shot and killed his brother Hodie fourteen with a shotgun and then killed himself by shooting in the head. Witness Ben Davis, a neighbor, says the boys quarreled on the way home at Saunders siding near Rocky Mount.

Mrs W H Deal Dies After Short Illness
Mrs. W. H. Deal died at her home in the city last Thursday night after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm from the home, conducted by J. C. Pruitt of the Baptist Church. She was a Wake County native about thirty, survived by a husband and two young children.
