Statesville November 19 The Southern Power Company's hydro electric plant at Lookout Shoals on the Catawba River twelve miles west of Statesville is nearing completion A dam section was closed yesterday diverting water and forcing Long Island Cotton Mill Long Island NC and Turner Mills Monbo and East Monbo NC to shut down for six hours due to reduced river flow.

David Lentz a 40 year old prominent farmer from Organ church area Rowan county was killed Saturday afternoon when his car ran off the road and into a ditch. His son David Lentz Jr aged and driving the vehicle at the time escaped unhurt.

John E Haithcock longtime Hickory resident and respected citizen died last Thursday night at an unknown hour found dead in bed Friday morning. Funeral from First Presbyterian Church Saturday at 1 2 30 PM led by Rev J G Garth with pallbearers Geo W Hall C C Best D M McComb C M Shuford W B Menzies Dr W B Ramsay. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. He was 65 years 5 months 3 days, born Williamsboro NC, married Dec 3 1863 to Annie Eli Vashon of Richmond VA. Survived by Geo E Haithcock of Gastonia, Miss Martha Haithcock of Hickory, John Vashon Haithcock who died in 1891. Moved to Hickory Dec 81 1887. Formerly in furniture business, retired 10 years ago to insurance and real estate. Daughter Mattie aided his affairs. Mrs Haithcock died Apr 6, 1910. The community shares the loss and pays tribute to his industry and courtesy.
