Wake Forest Posse Fires On Pilkerson After Refusal
At Wake Forest on February 27 Charles Pilkerson, accused drifter, refused to leave Royal Cotton Mills, prompting arrests. A night watchman invoked a warrant and left after Pilkerson fired. A pursuing posse of 15, led by Sheriff, arrived as Pilkerson stood on a porch with rifles. Gunfire ensued. Pilkerson was shot 20 times and felled.
