London reports from the board of trade for November record the sinking of 63 British steamers totaling 61 072 net tons with 646 lives lost. In the same port 35 British sailing vessels of 4977 net tons were lost with six lives.
The jury found no conviction in the case of Thos K Watson charged with sending obscene matter through the mail targeting a Catholic church denomination. The trial concluded without a verdict on the central charge and a mistrial was declared.

Mrs Rita Kierner mother of Mrs Roy Beach of Hildebran sought refuge at Ellis Island New York after leaving South Africa. Through the Commissioner of Immigration in Ellis Island she will be allowed to remain indefinitely. Mrs Horner and her children lived at Ellis Island two weeks earlier. Her husband was wounded serving under the British flag and they aimed to reach friends in America. They landed with just enough to reach New York but were ordered deported for lack of proof they would not become public charges.
The North Carolina Supreme Court in an opinion by Judge Allen upholds the quart law as enacted by the previous legislature. The decision stems from the Glenn versus express company case in Wake County, where plaintiff Glenn sued after the company refused to deliver a gallon of whiskey he had ordered.
