Miss M Hiteshew leads the Girlish department with Langue studies and mathematics, Miss Marion Evans joins from Baltimore, Miss Brats with Goucher training, Miss Marie Schmidt will teach expression, and Miss Cora Ballard oversees art. The Business School becomes part of Claremont College under Prof. C E Freeman, expanding opportunities for young women. Mrs. V T Hefner marks her 60th birthday with family from across states gathered at her home.

The Hickory Baraca-Pailathea Union met in the Re formed Church on Tuesday evening July 28. After hymn and prayer, minutes and roll call were followed by a social card activity and a pea-forfeit game as members asked yes or no questions. Henry Menzies won nine peas. Miss Katharin Hardin read and received an encore. Cream was served and thanks given to the program committee for a successful first Union social.

Shooting Near Taylorsville Ends Unsolved Farm Tragedy
News reports that Will Little aged 24, son of Daniel Little, was shot and killed by Isaac Stafford a farm tenant near Taylorsville after a Saturday dispute over bran. They arranged to meet at 6 am Sunday. Little was unarmed and died within minutes. Stafford fled after the shooting. Both men were married with families and from reputable backgrounds.

Death of Dr Yount of Conover Recalls Long Public Service
Dr D McD Yount of Conover died suddenly at his home Monday at 3 30 am after a period of feeble health. Born May 6 1833 he lived a long useful life and served in the Civil War as first lieutenant then captain. A Democratic representative from the county 1878 77 and 1880 81 he helped many and ran a Conover drug store until ill health forced retirement. Funeral and burial were held at Conover Tuesday afternoon at 8 o clock.

Thornton Deferred Financing During Restored Tranquility
