Hershey to form a regular choral society led by Harry G. Witmeyer with support from Mr. M. B. Hershey. The organization meeting is Monday September 20 at 8 pm in the Hershey Central Theater. All are invited to join to form forty voices and rehearse The Holy City.
The M. S. Hershey Consolidated School of Derry Township opened with 545 total pupils, 439 in grade schools and 106 in the high school. A gathering of teachers, board members, and others followed with speeches urging unity and prompt handling of issues.
The big baseball draw arrives Saturday September 11 as Hershey faces Middletown in a doubleheader at the local field. Middletown, chasing the pennant, aims for a season highlight with Swartz and Shink on the mound for Middletown and Elershey guiding Gefglor and Wunder for Hershey.
Twenty five mules have been added to the Hershey farms in Lebanon Valley. The herd grows to about 1,500 across Hershey properties, making it one of the nest stands in the valley.
The Mothers' Club will meet in the Kindergarten room next Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. All mothers are cordially invited to attend.
Mrs Fannie B Hershey marked her eightieth birthday with a private observance in Hershey. Her son organized a surprise breakfast at High Point attended by Hershey Industrial School youths. A posed photo captures flowers, children, and sunshine as a keepsake.
Dr. H Fager of Harrisburg marked his 61st birthday by walking 61 miles to Hershey and back, talking with locals and sharing travel details. He started at 3 AM, passing through Penbrook Paxtonia Grantville West Hanover Jonestown Ono Lebanon Annville Harshey and Wummelstown before reaching Harrisburg again by 8 PM.
Snavely Joseph Richard Snavely of Hershey and Miss Helen Oldweiler Henry of Palmyra wed in the Little Church Around the Corner Episcopal service. The couple, greeted by few friends, sailed for Bermuda aboard the Bermudian and will stay at Hotel Frascati before returning to Palmyra by the 20th.
Manager A. L. Heilman known as the weather prophet predicts continued dry air after the excursion season ends. He claims Spring Creek carried enough water this summer to keep the Atlantic Ocean wet until doomsday.
The Millersburg Auto Club and about two hundred people rode from Millersburg to Hershey in forty cars. The day was ideal with good roads, a long lunch and a tour of the Hershey chocolate factory, dairy farms, and stock.
The Hershey mansion grounds golf course will be lengthened by 500 yards to 3020 total with 9 holes. Holes 2 8 6 8 and 9 are to be rebuilt, the new 8th hole incorporating the Old Farm House. All tees will be moved back to intensify play and the course aims to become a premier private venue in America.
About 500 attend the International Bible Students Association gathering in Hershey with many more expected. Pastor Russell, called Brother Russell, slated to lecture Sunday at 2 30 on the European war and its outcome. The event draws wider interest as conventions occur across nations and theaters host night programs before the week ends.
Rain dampened Monday crowds yet Hershey Park drew thousands with open attractions and full-day events. Harrisburg chorus performance at Convention Hall drew about three hundred. Hershey Band offered two concerts as rain persisted.
Beginning next Monday moving pictures of good quality will be shown every evening at 7 30. Five excellent reels will be shown. Admission is ten cents. Dancing next Saturday evening and again on Wednesday evenings after this week. A band concert at the Park next Saturday from 2 30 to 6 and Sunday afternoon in two parts 2 30 to 3 30 and 4 40 to 6 00. The full band of forty will perform. The band concerts are entirely free. An automobile trip to Hershey Park is suggested.
The forecast calls for scattered showers early followed by cooler, pleasant conditions through the 18th or 19th. A return to unsettled weather and more showers is possible after that period.
