Dauphin County Berkshire Field Day At State College
Farmers in Dauphin County are invited to attend the State Berkshire field day at State College on October 26 and 27. Assistant County Agent R R Burtner says the program includes a Berkshire breeders dinner, hog plant and college farm tours, swine judging demonstrations, and talks on hog house construction. A carload of Berkshires is being prepared for the International Live Stock Show in Chicago, with about 100 pigs sent to the college last spring for selection. Herman Grubb of Quarry Farms has donated six Berkshire barrows to the feed lot.

Hershey employees received two checks on Saturday the regular semi monthly pay and a quarterly additional compensation payment about 24 percent of net remainder after deductions. The plan pays 25 percent of the remainder to officers in proportion to prior salaries. Payments are quarterly after each period ends for those employed throughout the quarter. The 1923 arrangement may continue or be modified to align officer and employee interests with company success.

The Hershey Fair drew large crowds despite rain but the auction package sale was postponed to Thursday per auctioneer Jacob C Hess. A wide assortment of items including paintings books utensils glassware and aluminumware was gathered with many new pieces. Attendees are urged to bring small gifts to support the fire department and pay down 500 on the fire engine.
