A call to citizens to back soldiers by purchasing bonds. It condemns those who avoid buying bonds as failing in their patriotic duty and urges public show of support through financial contributions to the war effort.
A wartime poem urges citizens to support the war effort from home. It contrasts staying at home with contributing through Liberty bonds, prudent wartime consumption, and daily labor to back soldiers overseas. It condemns enemy aggression and calls for unity to preserve the flag and defeat the Hun and their Kultur.
A Fourth Liberty Loan rally at the Hershey Chocolate Company features speakers M S Hershey W F R Murrie and J E Snyder. Hershey urges 100 percent employee participation noting shame in no bond buyers and over the top goal. Murrie predicts full employee subscriptions before week’s end.
The State Library requests contributions for Soldiers and Sailors Libraries. Money can be given to Miss Baker at the Hershey Library who hopes to collect a sizable sum from patrons to support troops overseas.
This week features coat sales as Hershey Department Store announces a surprise day for shoppers next week. The event promises special discounts and limited stock amid seasonal shopping.
The Quick Lunch in the Hershey Men’s Club building opens at noon with Chef Ed Leaman in charge assisted by Mary Strine Myrtle Newcomer Stella Brubaker and Mrs Bachman. John F Snavely will direct operations to please patrons and equipment by Bernard Gloekler Company in Pittsburgh.
The boys and girls of Oscar Sims room on the 4th floor of the Chocolate Factory funded an American flag an Italian flag and a service flag. After purchases five dollars remained and was donated to the Red Cross collected by Theodore Swanson. He also collected for adding stars to a service flag from Mr Zoll room 3rd floor, balance three dollars and twenty cents donated to the Red Cross.
In Hershey the town notes many men serving in the war effort and urges raising a fund to purchase a Service Flag to honor those serving. The piece asks who will start the ball rolling for the flag and celebrates local patriotism.
