A six part entertainment course for Hershey is planned with Lotus Glee Club and Minnie Marshall-Smith featured first. The remaining four numbers will come at three to four week intervals this winter. Tickets will admit holders to all events. Officials aim to finalize arrangements within a week.
The Hershey Chocolate Company has sent a large shipment of solid cars of chocolate this week. Two cars were shipped to Denver Colorado and another car was started for La Crosse Wisconsin.
The school board met at the school building and passed a resolution notifying patrons that compulsory attendance in township schools goes into effect October 2 in accordance with state law.
Hallowe en Barn Fete hosted by PRE Ladies Senior Bible Class of the U B Church will be held on Halloween evening Tuesday October 31 at John Moyers Derry Church. Committee members are working late to craft original entertainments and promise an engaging event for attendees and their escorts with emphasis on originality and community fun.
High School organizes a new literary society to replace defects of the old group. A full constitution is adopted and officers elected: President Frank Balsbaugh, Vice President Paul Klein, Secretary Pauline Clark, pianist Georgia Wick, editor Paul Wagner, executive committee Victor Gingrich Paul Miller Lloyd Balsbaugh. The next meeting shows a varied program with music, essays, recitation, reading, debate on whether reading or observation yields more knowledge, and other activities.
Swartz and Pearl present a sketch on the Philadelphia auto races with Sanders and Irvin Slesser. Edna Hocken and Myrtle Klein perform recitations and music by the high school. Twelve new pupils join McKinley school this week from Knowledge Hill Harrisburg Gingrich. Photographer J K Baum from Middletown visited Hershey last Friday to photograph several schools.
Allison Garman and his wife returned from a two week trip to the western part of the state. They spent time in Pittsburgh with the Hershey Store Co hardware interests and visited relatives in Pitcairn McKeesport Braddock Scottdale Greensburg. An ankle injury forced them to cut the visit short.
The Ladies' Guild of the Derry Presbyterian Church met at Miss May Hershey's home on October 4. They planned an oyster supper for October 14 and played games. Refreshments followed and all attendees enjoyed the evening.
Rev. Earnest A Sharp arrives as pastor of the United Brethren Church in Hershey. A native of Clearfield County he studied at Otterbein University and Bonebrake Theological Seminary graduating in 1908. He comes from Johnstown where he served five years and will conduct his first services on Sunday October 22.
The Glee Club formed as a permanent organization at a meeting held at Ralph Mayfair home. E W Pocock elected president and J E Jones secretary treasurer. A committee including James Kepley Charles Peiffer and M W Chabitnoy to draft a constitution. Next meeting scheduled at William Wick home.
