Hershey may form an American Legion post as veterans of World War I consider organizing efforts. A campaign committee could be named within two weeks if enough local servicemen are confirmed, with membership open to all eligible veterans.
The United States Civil Service Commission announces clerk examinations for the Census Bureau to be held in Harrisburg on October 18 and November 15. Salaries range from 500 to 1020 dollars yearly with rapid promotions to higher grades. temporary appointments run one to two years, not beyond June 30, 1922. Applicants must be 18 to 49, U.S. citizens, and apply at Room 205, Post Office building, Harrisburg, with form 304 at least one week before the exam.
The John Elder Men's Bible Class of Derry Presbyterian Church in Hershey plans three high quality lyceum entertainments at Central Theatre on November 14 February 24 and April 1 under Redpath Brockway Bureau. Woodland Singers perform November 14, Winters Company on February 24, and John B. Ratto on April 1. Tickets are one dollar for all three shows and go on sale November 1.
Rally Day exercises will be held at Derry Presbyterian Church on Sunday October 5 with a combined Sunday School and church service. The Christian Endeavor Society will lead the evening rally and Rev. Taylor will preach Sunday evening sermons for men indefinitely.
R S Swabb, leader of the Hershey Band, says there are several vacancies to fill within weeks. Needs include clarinets altos saxophones and one trombone. The band has thirty pieces and meets Mondays and Fridays at the Hershey Park Band hall. Candidates should attend the next meeting.
A visit to Derry Township Public Schools finds enrollment steady with 794 district students including 89 in the High School and a Hershey Building total of 690. The Hershey High School offers an eighteen course graduation path with mandatory two years of Manual Training or Domestic Science, plus frequent specialized instruction in penmanship, music, and drawing.
Community nurse Katharine Becker returns from vacation and will resume duties at the Red Cross Rooms. She invites notifications of illness and offers to visit homes. contact via the office or telephone.
Rev. B. Clinton Ritz of St. Mark's Lutheran Church Schuylkill Haven Pa accepts call to Holy Trinity as pastor effective November 1 1919. He is a Gettysburg College and Seminary graduate with honors and comes highly recommended by fellow pastors from his hometown and others familiar with his work.
The John Elder Men's Bible Class of Derry Presbyterian Church will meet next Monday evening at 8 p m at the residence of Mr E B Cassady on Derry Road for a discussion of the first chapter Money the Acid Test followed by the business and social hour. A full attendance is expected from the enthusiasm shown at the last meeting.
Harry Gordon who lives near Campbell town raised a cabbage he claims is the largest in the area for some time. The head weighs twelve pounds four ounces.
The Hershey Juniors held Enhaut to eight points but failed to score after strong defensive play by Enhaut. Strine tackled in the end zone for a touchback early, and Enhaut crossed Hershey’s goal line in the second quarter. The locals showed best play in the second half while Enhaut’s heavy line prevented further scoring. Russell Zentmyer seeks games with teams averaging 185 pounds for upcoming Saturdays at the local field.
Hershey Park will hold dances every Wednesday and Saturday through October with a Halloween masquerade to close the season. Patrons urged the extension after large crowds and ongoing requests. Further Halloween details will appear next week in the Press.
Hershey Olivers plan a benefit to fund the upcoming season. Paul Zentmyer was elected manager and a local schedule favors home games. A moving picture show at Central Theatre on Tuesday October 7 will raise funds with admission priced modestly. The City of Comrades starring Tom Moore will be shown.
Hershey Transit Company announces a schedule change. The lastkethtown will leave Hershey at 10 30 p m instead of 11 30 p m, effective immediately.
