Hershey Choco late Company expands its main power house with a new 250 foot smokestack spelling HERSHEY in darker bricks. The facility adds ten boilers total, a fourth turbo generator, and a 7500 kilowatt output to meet rising power, steam, refrigeration, air, and water needs for factory and town.
Cedar Rapids High School football team arrived from Harrisburg by car and held a practice at Hershey Inn. The Palmyra band will escort the Cedar Rapids squad at the game with Hershey rooters in the Hershey section. Coach Novak said the team is in excellent condition and eager for a strong battle.
The Hershey Red Cross seeks workers to sew carpeting for the blind of Dauphin County to ensure a sufficient rag supply. Anyone available should bring scissors thimbles and needles. A gathering is set for Tuesday afternoon December 2 at 2 PM in the Red Cross room on the Hershey Central Theatre second floor.
The Rev J Webster Bailey D D is reported dead after nine hours of unconsciousness on Thursday November 20 at the home of his daughter in Dale Park TL Friends express deep sympathy for the loss of a cherished local clergyman whose uplifting presence brightened many lives.
The Hershey Department Store showcases an expanded holiday display with a wide assortment of gifts for men women and children. Shoppers are greeted by large window displays and a vast selection from toys to travel items, clothing and jewelry, with Santa at headquarters inviting visits.
The Woman's Missionary Society of the First United Brethren Church announces a Woman's Day observance on Sunday evening December 7 at 7 30 oclock. The Ladies Auxiliary unit linked with Hershey Post and American Legion will host a card party next Monday evening in the Old Store building with prizes and punch during intermission. A birthday appreciation party at the Robert Stable home honored Mrs. Robert Stable with many gifts and a social gathering among neighbors and friends.
Hollywood producer James Cruze and his crew traveled 4300 miles to Natchez Mississippi to film The Fighting Coward. Ernest Torrence Mary Astor Noah Beery Phyllis Haver and Cullen Landis star in the Paramount picture to be shown at Hershey Central Theatre on Saturday November 29 at 745 PM. Landis plays Tom Rumford a southern bred northerner who confronts a duel and finds love in the South after leaving his home.
Tom Mix stars in Oh You Tony a William Fox production to be shown at Hershey Central Theatre on Tuesday evening at 7 30. The film features a perilous street race with Tony the wonder horse for a $25 000 prize and a dramatic rescue of Claire Adams by Tom.
In a two-team fundraiser at the High School, the Andys led the Minis 144 to 143 after a week long drive. Friday afternoon the Minis treated the Andys to ice cream, and after closures two more Minis subscriptions brought their total to 145. Proceeds go to the High School Athletic Association to buy basketball equipment.
A Saturday party at Mr. and Mrs. David Bomgardner celebrated their daughter Miriam’s bird birthday with games dancing and refreshments. The O. C. class of Derry Presbyterian Church will hold a bazaar at Rev. ROL Taylor’s home on Thursday and Friday. The sale offers women and children’s aprons bibs scarves doilies and lingerie plus luncheon sets and handwork items. Proceeds support the Manse and church needs.

Dr Harvey Bossler of Myerstown, fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, heads to the Jibero Indians in Peru for six months while chocolates sent by Samuel Moesser await his return for test results. Moesser reports delays due to Amazon navigation and political turmoil in Iquitos, with protests, looting, and police crackdowns shaping daily life during Peru’s near elections.
Large crowds are expected for the Hershey event December 17 to 19 with substantial cash premiums for potato exhibits. Nathan Basehore leads the committee with R J Walton Roy Shenk Clayton Gingrich Cyrus Hitz John ONeal Ezra Foultz Moses Atticks Christian Erb John Eisenhour and Cassell Landis heading the effort. Potatoes are shown in three classes with premiums ranging from 50 cents to $5 plus a boys and girls division offering four prizes totaling $4.75 per division. An honorary corn class joins the displays as seven more volunteers organize the showing teams.
Ministers from forty eight denominations form a nationwide drive to raise 4 million dollars for Union Theological Seminary in New York. Rev. Robert H. Taylor leads the local effort as a seminary graduate. Rockefeller Jr has given over 1.08 million and another donor 1.25 million on the condition the full goal is met.
The Luther League at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church held its Monday meeting with president Norman Stahle presiding. Officers elected for 1925 include Goldie Habaker as president and Hilda Seymeyer as vice president, with Margaret Bomygardner as secretary and Earle Stable as treasurer. The program featured readings, a piano solo, a vocal duet, and a church themed dialogue.
Hershey Chocolate Co will construct a new five story concrete and tile manufacturing and storage building between Building 35 and the old coal pit near the Reading railroad. The 383 by 118 foot unit will store cocoa beans and almonds, feed sorting and cleaning lines, roasters, hullers, mills, and hydraulic presses.
The Dauphin County School Directors Association holds its mid winter session in Millersburg High School on December 5 and 6 1924. The program features devotional exercises discussions on taxation for schools the community role of schools and administrative functions led by local educators and the county superintendent.
Beginning December 1 a three week evangelistic campaign will be held at the United Brethren Church each evening except Saturday. Led by the pastor with Rev. and Mrs. C S Thompson of Plymouth Ind assisting. Mr Thompson directs music with Mrs Thompson on harp. Services start at 7 30 p.m. General public invited.

The regular monthly meeting of the Young Men’s Bible class of Holy Proity Lutheran Church will be held next Friday evening November 28 in the church basement. All members are urged to attend.
The Men’s meeting at Hershey Central Theatre on Sunday November 30 at 3 00 pm will feature Rev W S Dunlop of Harrisburg. Music includes Merrill Smith the violinist Hershey Industrial School boys and cornetist Fred Pronto. Local pastors join in opening prayer scripture and benediction inviting every man to attend and bring a friend.
The American Legion will sponsor the Community Christmas Tree event with a goal of serving up to a thousand children this year. A committee including Mrs. Ezra F. Hershey Miss Elizabeth High Prof A M Hinkel John R Zoll Fred Botts Ivan Mease and Paul Shultz was formed to organize donations and prizes. The drive appeals to Hershey area residents to contribute and join Santa Claus in spreading joy with oranges candy popcorn and a toy for each child eight and under.
On Tuesday evening Roy Lloyd used a two tube set to pick up European stations during American broadcasts silence. He logged W1NAS Louisville 100 meters and heard Station BNO New Castle Magand with a mandolin solo and a Verdi aria, though most programs were in foregn tongues and unclear. The receiver was built by Joe Helckel from the corona department. A Hershey fire at Swatara involved fire engines and key officers. the fire in a pig pen damaged wax and nearby buildings mostly spared. A Hershey WCG Ul will meet December 2 at 7 PM at Mrs R E Taylor’s home. all members urged to attend.
Miss Agana Leibschutz and John J. Loewen wed on Saturday in the Harrisburg Lutheran Church with Rev Lisso officiating. They were accompanied by Mrs. Leibschutz and spent a brief honeymoon at Mt. Joy.
