Rumors of a Klan order stir tension in Hershey as residents debate its potential impact. Local visits, theater plans, football previews, hunting tales, and community notices fill the week, from reunions in Maryland to High School games and cerebral social events.
Hershey Post No. 386 American Legion held the Third Annual Armistice Day program at Hershey Central Theatre. Grover C. Sheckart chaired. Highlights included Hershey Harmony Broadcasters, Apollo Male Quartette, and addresses by Rev. M. LeRoy Wachter Rev. George Edward Hawes and Rev. Robert Bagnell.
Representatives of the Young People divisions met in the YWCA Club Room Hershey on November 9 to plan a district conference. Committees formed include General Promotion Publicity Registration and Entertainment Banquet and Decor Recreation and a strong candidate to be selected.
The YWCA hosts an eight oclock program at Her shey Central Theatre on Thursday November 16 featuring sixteen performers. Admission is 25 cents with proceeds benefiting a worthy cause. The bill includes quartets solos duets violins pianos and readings by Mary Gregg Darrow Robert Knoll Gladys Christ Kathryn Miller Miriam Moore and others.
Hershey High School lost to Millersville High 26 to 22 in a tightly played game on the local field. Hershey showed offense in the second half with Long and Robertson end runs and a Belser drop kick, while Millersville benefited from a heavier line and key scorers including Long and Robertson.
Woman's Day will be observed by the Otterbein Guild in the United Brethren Church on Sunday evening, November 19 at 7 30. The program includes song scripture reading weaveri adette Mia Chas Copp Mrs Ray Willard Lena Frehn Ina Carpenter Gladys Chriat Mia Cyrus Garman Bertha Habaker reading by Mable Lingle piano solo offering pageant The Open Door song America benediction cordial invitation extended to attend these exercises.
Valentino leads the Paramount spectacle Blood and Sand from Vicente Blasco Ibanez at Her shey Central Theatre Friday and Saturday at 7 30. Lila Lee and Nita Naldi co star with a stellar Paramount cast in this exotic Spain tale directed by Fred Niblo and adapted by June Mathis.
Charles Jones stars in the Fox picture West of Chicago coming Tuesday evening at 7:30. Renee Adoree supports with thrilling near border action and romantic and comedic touches. The producer promises rapid startling scenes and strong dramatic sweep for a capacity audience.
The Hershey Mothers' Club met Tuesday with members including Mrs. Ezra Hershey and Miss Elizabeth High. High was elected to the Board. other nominations were made for Board seats. A December 4 dance for the Kindergarten benefit was arranged amid growing local interest.
The American Legion of Hummelstown held a second card party with Hershey attendees. Ten prizes were awarded, seven won by Hershey residents including Winfield Zimmerman first and Miss Florence Dershimer second. Other prize winners included Mervin Holland Ed Lewis Mrs T L McHeffey Mrs Winfield Zimmerman and Miss Elizabeth High.
Hershey High School will host Middle Town High School on the local field this Saturday with a 2:30 kickoff. School plans call for full student attendance to cheer the team to victory and a large town turnout is encouraged.
School authorities thank the public for generous clothing donations sent to the suffering in Smyrna. On Wednesday two large boxes were packed with many desirable garments and dispatched to the sufferers.
Dr. George P. Bible spoke to a large Hershey audience on Life and Opportunity at the Hershey Central Theatre. He urged managing thoughts, avoiding worry, pursuing a definite purpose, and speaking well of others while valuing health, brain power, and vision.
The John Elder Men’s Bible Class met Monday November 13 with Daniel Ensminger. They invited Falling Springs Presbyterian Church’s Men’s Bible Class of Chambersburg to attend a late November meeting and to try to bring Dr. C Waldo Cherry of Pine Street Presbyterian Harrisburg as guest. refreshments were served to listed attendees.
The Hershey Volunteer Firemen will hold a banquet at Grantville on Thursday evening November 2. Thomas Black, committee chairman, has arranged the details. Attendees should send their names and $1.25 to Mr. Black by Monday November 20. The event promises a good time and socializing.
