A reverent verse invokes unity under a divine protector and a national banner. The speaker seeks guidance and cohesion for the nation, promising a united people from mountain to shore under a bright emblem and the persistent cry of Union and Liberty.
The Hershey Chocolate Company office force plans a picnic on June 8 at Valley Glen Park. They depart at 1 pm in a milk truck, with a committee organizing games as the girls form a baseball team to challenge the office boys who may play left handed. Supper will follow after a long ride home.
The contest ended last week after readers submitted solutions to a misspelled word in the Hersh laundry advertisement. ROMIG earns 50 cents of free laundry work for spotting underware on page 16.
Readers signaled interest with numerous letters many from outside town though the paper notes no award for finding misspellings.
Hershey Park opens on Decoration Day May 30 with dancing morning to evening. The miniature trolley ride, motor 50 hp, carries 60 passengers from entrance to athletic field and merry-go-round. Bannon's miniature circus at 2 pm features daily shows with evening performances. A 3 30 pm game pits Hershey against Bethany A C. The band concert caps the day as a big family event.
About fifty members of the Central Pennsylvania Confectioners Jobbing Association gathered in the park amphitheater for the annual convention on Friday May 19. A lively session ran from 2 to 4 p m and the same officers as the previous year were elected.
The Hershey Chocolate Company entertained members with dinner and luncheon, plus an auto ride to Hershey Farms and the Old Homestead. Special plans were made for departure Friday evening on the limited train, and all attendees reported an enjoyable day.
Members of Washington Camp 705 P O S of A are asked to meet at their hall next Sunday at 6 30 pm to march to the Presbyterian Church for the union memorial service honoring Civil War heroes. All townspeople are urged to attend with Rev John A MacDonald presiding and Rev Romig delivering the address.
Reading mayor sends a Memorial Day message to Governor Tener in Harrisburg via a relay run. William McCormick of Olivet Boys Club oversees the effort. Garvin communicates with McCormick about Hershey Boy Scouts joining to carry the message from Annville to Hershey and back, delivering the governor's reply.
