The John B. Wills Musical Company begins a two week engagement on Monday night with Two Old Cronies. They will change bills twice weekly and promise highly entertaining shows. Five girls sing well and are prettily costumed. The company carries its own scenery and electric effects, aiming for Perry Players quality.
A joint committee of United Brethren and Presbyterian churches in Hershey plans August Sunday evening meetings at Hershey Park theater. Speakers will include a returning figure from last year with Bishop Bell likely to appear in the afternoon. Music will feature each service and committees will handle arrangements for a well organized series. Citizens are urged to support and attend to ensure success.
Workmen install a pipe line from the pumping station to the boiler rooms to carry creek water for boilers. Spring water from the main reservoir will no longer be used for steam generation.
Farm manager F B Snavely reports farm number one Geo Dressler the tenant had a fine field of wheat spanning sixty five acres cut in twenty five hours using an eight foot knife McCormick binder This stands as a good wheat cutting record and if matched others would like to hear about it Records like this are not common each year
A Hershey Chautauqua is planned for September 4 to 10 with daily programs starting at 2 PM opening lecture by A I Downey. Ciricillo's Italian band performs 3 PM and 7 10 PM concerts, followed by illustrated lectures and motion pictures.
A seven day program will be held at the Park theater with season tickets selling for two dollars. The program contains thirty two numbers. Each season ticket will cost the purchaser six to seven cents per program. Accommodations are arranged for park camping and weeklong visits. Rooms and board can be provided for all attendees.
An open air meeting will be held Sunday afternoon July 28 in Hershey Park. The speaker will be Rev. D. D. Lowery D D Conference Superintendent of the United Brethren Church. A fuller announcement will follow next week.
Workmen reset the fountain base at Hershey Mansion raising it one foot. A stone dresser refinishes tulip shaped fountain cups. Sculptor Giuseppe Doanado will set the fountain after cement hardens. Erection expected in about two weeks with new vases lamp posts bronze figures and a title The Dance of Eternal Spring. Cost cited as 25 600 dollars.
On Tuesday Manager Heilman of Hershey Park lowered the Miniature Railway round trip fare from ten to five cents to reach the new Carrousel and entice more riders. The adjustment aims to boost evening pleasure rides and draw more patrons by offering two rides for the price of one.
The Holy Trinity Lutheran congregation and Bible School will hold a Saturday picnic. Picnickers meet at the P.O. Hall at 1 30 p.m. and sit to the evening meal at about 5 30 p.m. Games and sports will be provided for the young people. Parents of Bible School children and friends are invited.
Contractor Putt erects a large rustic summer house in a big black oak near the Spring house on the Hershey Mansion Lawn. A cedar stairway path connects to the spring and mansion, with cedar seating on both sides and a high tree-top view of the landscape and cooling breezes.
