Extensive preparations mark Hershey Park as the largest Independence Day gathering in Lebanon Valley. Excursions, abundant parking, free zoo access, concerts by the Hershey Band, shows at Hershey Park Theater, and a spectacular illuminated display are planned to attract tens of thousands. The event includes a baseball game, new convention hall lights, a 165-foot searchlight, and a motorized American Flag illusion. Trolley service to Palmyra and Lebanon will run every half hour.

A Press visit to Her shey Farm Number Three describes a 250 acre site between Union Deposit and Sand Beach with a modern calf barn housing over 50 calves. The facility features ample ventilation, individual calves with own feed and hours, concrete manure pit, a 22 by 60 feet corn barn, 4000 bushel capacity, and a high hay yield. Death of Kathryn Yingst in Derry Church area
Miss Kathryn Yingst died Saturday evening at her mother Mary Yingst’s home in Derry Church after several weeks of illness. She was 806 years old and had lived in Derry for years while working more than a decade at the local general store. Survived by her mother and sister Lizzie Gross of Highspire, she belonged to the United Brethren and Faithful Workers’ Bible Class. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9 from the house, with Rev. N. L. Linebaugh and Rev. George S. Rentz officiating. burial followed at Middletown with grave services.

Lion Minnie’s illness linked to crowds feeding at Hershey zoo
Crowds at Hershey last month brought their own food and fed Minnie the lioness. Minnie collapsed from acute dyspepsia after consuming diverse items, including cheese. Veterinary care by Dr. Zinner saved her, with others at the zoo also affected. Signs now warn visitors not to feed animals.
