Mr. Hershey convened department heads to announce the 1924 plan increasing the additional compensation from 25 to 35 percent of net profits. He urged teamwork and discussed a forthcoming pension fund for long-time workers, plus potential town improvements and a new high school.

Dauphin County farmers plan for a likely poor hay crop at the annual Dauphin County Agricultural Extension Association meeting on January 10 in Harrisburg. The event includes a court room session, a luncheon with Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce, and talks by Theodore H. Price and F. B. Weaver. The association reports 50 acres inoculated for soy beans and 140 for alfalfa, with nine farmers planting 108 total acres of alfalfa, and three demonstrations held across the county.
The Hershey Farm Company advertises farms for rent with many already leased. Interested parties should make an immediate inquiry at the Hershey Trust Co. building in the Hershey arm office for proposals.
The Hershey Volunteer Fire Company held its monthly meeting at the Hose House with members present. A Sterling 3 HP 220-volt siren was shipped and to be installed on a 30 day approval, eight feet of flexible suction hose with couplings were ordered, and a fund to purchase flowers for deceased members was approved. A Reading Railroad payment of 206.50 for freight wreck services was reported. The committee on new furniture had no report and a 500 party may be held after renovations.
A Fox Film Co photographer shot hundreds of feet of Hershey footage from landmarks including the Hershey Department Store building and the old school where Mr. Hershey learned his ABCs. The Fox Weekly Hershey pictures center on Mr. Hershey and his police dog and will be shown Tuesday evening January 8 at the Hershey Central Theatre along with Cupid's Fireman by Charles Jones. Miss Leah Gingrich aged 86 years 6 months 8 days died Friday December 28 from apoplexy. She born in West Hanover resided at Derry Church with nephew Paul Gingrich and belonged to the Church of the Brethren. Services were at home then Henry Meeting House led by Rev John Witmer and Rev John C Zug. Interment in adjoining cemetery. Survived by brother Jacob M Gingrich of West Hanover. Undertaker Daniel Bordlemay of Palmyra in charge.
A New Year birthday party was held at Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bistline home on Aretha Avenue for their daughter Dorothea turning seven. The Hershey Junior Olivers defeated the Palmyra Midget Five 17 to 12 on the Hershey M C A floor Friday night. Stover and Ulrich starred for Hershey, delivering the standout performances of the game.

A local wedding in Hagerstown Md linked Miss Elma Wiley daughter of Mr and Mrs C A Wiley Hershey to Charles W Cocklin son of Mr and Mrs Frank Cocklin Steelton. The Rev Ryder officiated at the Lutheran church with a ring ceremony. They will reside with the bride’s family while Mr Cocklin works as a machinist at the Harrisburg Pennsylvania Car Shops.
The Women's Missionary Society of the Fira United Brethren Church will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening January 20 at 7 30 at the home of Mia John Westhafer Trinilad Avenue. Members and friends urged to attend.

Leon Cole drove strong staff cooperation, offering vast stock, delivery service, and wide selection, while some residents resisted patronage. Four Dauphin County Berkshire barrows from the Watry farm Palmyra R D managed by Herman Grubb received second prize at the International Livestock Show in Chicago. The Pennsylvania carload sold for 10.25 per 100 pounds after judging a large class of barrows, ranking third in price among carload lots and near the grand champion. The hogs were raised statewide and fed at State College before shipment to the show, with 20 barrows shipped from sixty farms.
The C. M. Society of Hummelstown held a card party and dance on New Year’s Eve at the Lesson Hall. Guests included Mrs. Mia, Marian Davis, Emma Sutcliffe, Rachael Sutcliffe, Esther Miller, Martha Gingrich, Gertrude Cassel, Ruth Gingrich, Russell Stare, George Hocker, Frank Muth, J. C. Gingrich, William Gill, Roy Gingrich and Harry Snavely among others.
Benny Kline's Harrisburg All-Stars defeated Hershey Big Five 54 to 33 at Casino Hall. Star performers included Penn State's Glenn Killinger and Haps Frank along with Bud Lingle and Rus Tuckey. Hershey's Bordner Strine and Zimmerman sparked periods of excitement but could not overcome Harrisburg's depth.
Hershey High School beat the Hershey Alumni 56 to 28 on the Hershey Men's Club floor. The first half was even, but the High team pulled away in the second half with rapid passes and accurate shooting led by Magrini and Dowhower. Substitutions included Gerlach for Tinney and Swartz for Ferrucci.
The service commission approved the Philadelphia and Reading Company and subsidiaries merger and filed a certificate of public convenience. The target takes effect December 31 with the new Reading Company to begin business January 1, including multiple involved railroad companies.
