Hershey’s new power plant represents a peak in industrial efficiency with all processes run by machinery. Coal is predigested in a steel tank, then conveyed to furnaces, while superheated steam powers two large engines producing electricity for the plant and town. The upgrade triples the boiler room and enlarges the engine room, adding diesel engines, two large refrigerating machines, air compressors, and advanced control equipment.
