Hershey Chocolate Company plans a steel stone and cement warehouse with 35000 bag sugar capacity. The plant already covers 35 acres as booming business strains space, while new machinery arrives weekly and cocoa imports have doubled since 1910.
Under Miss Anna H. Lloyd the Hershey High School senior class received high honors for a three act Woodman comedy. The audience included many parents and friends as the cast displayed fine character and beauty with praised stage management.
Some five hundred members of Mount Moriah Lodge Philadelphia will ride a special Philadelphia and Reading train to Hershey and transfer to Hershey Transit Line cars for a day at the Masonic Home in Elizabethtown. The trip is described as one of the year's largest excursions with Hershey favored as a route for Masonry events, and more such runs expected. the Magons will depart Elizabethtown at four and reach Hershey around five.
The Mothers' Club meeting has been postponed from Tuesday to next Tuesday evening due to the Central Theatre play. Rev. Dr ROA Butterwiek and Mr. W ST Dubois will speak, and a Christmas solo will be performed.
Germany offered to discuss peace while war era wage gains faltered. Bethlehem Steel fell sharply as wheat tumbled 11 cents, but the broader effect hit munitions plants, where thousands faced sudden unemployment and stranded workers. Some Hershey workers sought old jobs for steadier pay as a retreat to continuous production began.
The Sunday afternoon union service drew about seven hundred people from nearby towns to hear Rev. Dr. Charles M. Jacobs discuss What Makes Men. Dr. Jacobs impressed with his personality and oratorical power. A full report will appear next week in the Press.
The Hershey Volunteer Firemen entertainment committee will present February 9, 1917, at the Central Theatre a program of two reels of pictures, five vaudeville acts and a skit. Local male and female talent perform with 25 cent admission, starting at 7 46 p.m. and aiming to finish by 10 20 p.m. The next meeting is December 2 at 7 30 p.m. at the Central Bureau.
Many friends have called Fred Clark during the past week and his condition has improved. He is still a little weak but regaining strength rapidly and can receive visitors. Dr. Zimmerman is the attending physician.
John H. Gallatin of the Press force mourns his father in law George Th Imboden a prominent Annville resident aged 88 A Civil War veteran and longtime Annville citizen for 60 years. Funeral held Saturday.
The United States imported 243,232,000 pounds of crude cocoa in fiscal year 1916, up 50,000,000 pounds from 1915 and doubling 1910, driven by rising demand for chocolate. Direct shipments from British West Africa rose to 25 million pounds, with notable gains from Brazil Portugal and French Africa and declines from the United Kingdom.
The Hershey Trust Company’s Christmas Fund reached 17000 this year after involvement by 675 depositors. Each person received a mailed check and many saved or partly saved the funds. The program boosts saving and has resulted in stronger accounts at Hershey Trust Company.
Vesper services will be led by Rev. Mr. Taylor on Friday evening with the topic Christmas. The last service before the new year is Tue 3:30 to 4:30 for ages 10 to 13 at Raflia and Gymnasium. Sewing class Thu 3:30 to 4:30 and a youth session Sat 10:00 to 11:00 for ages 6 to 10 at Raffia and gymnasium.
The funeral of Mrs. Mary Binner wife of Edward Binner of Lebanon and mother of J Ed Field of Hershey took place Saturday morning. A requiem high mass was held at St Marys Catholic church at 9 oclock by Rev Father Adams Christ. Interment followed at St Marys cemetery with pallbearers John ONeill Charles ONeill Leo Jones Edward Jones William J Jones Ellwood Binner.
Death reported from a hospital in Atlantic City after a Hershey reader learned of Miss Elsie Yunge's death. A native of Leipaig she lived six years at High Point and spent most of her life in America. Her death is sincerely regretted by many who knew her.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a parcel post sale at the Terrheay Central Theatre on Saturday with afternoon and evening sessions. Packages from across the United States will be sold and some candies will be offered.
Hershey will dedicate and illuminate a community Christmas tree at 7 PM on December 21. The event is a joint effort by the Mothers' Club the YWCA and the Hershey Men's Club with J B Leithiser furnishing the tree. The program features the Hershey Band carols YWCA girls Rev Mr Taylor of Derry Presbyterian Church and the Men’s Club singers. The half hour event 7 to 7 30 will be brief and the tree will stay lit all evening and on subsequent nights. The tree may be brought from the Conewaro evergreen grove and last year’s tree was considered beautiful and this year hoped to be larger and handsomer.
Samuel H. Clark aged 93 died at his Hershey area home at 2 AM on December 7 after a long life of health and independence. Born near Middletown in 1883 he built a farm at Hershey fifty years ago and remained a steadfast Republican voter. He leaves Susannah Dewey his wife two sons Samuel D. Clark and Joseph Clark and eleven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday with large attendance.
The Otterbein Men’s Bible Class of the First United Brethren Church celebrated its seventh anniversary with a Hershey Cafe banquet. A long guest list, speeches by Rev. Meek and Rev. Taylor, and remarks by Dr. M. L. Hershey highlighted the event, ending around 10:30 p.m. The program emphasized Bible study, moral and spiritual uplift, and cooperation with community agencies including the Hershey Industrial School and local schools.
The Christmas entertainment at the United Brethren Church is set for Sunday evening, December 24, with strong committee backing for a likely success. Dr. M. L. Hershey chairs the music committee, listing Edith Pabeekex Mary Painter Viola Boyer George W. Hauck and Earl Mays among others. The Angel Song Book will be used, and a gifts committee led by Dr. Butterwick includes all Sunday School teachers with Mrs. Butterwick chairing decorations plus several listed members for decoration and training roles.

The Wershey Woodmen held a December 6 booster meeting with over fifty attendees. Council Commander Cyrus Garman presided. guests included J E H Watters and Henry J Klugh. Initiation fees drop from 5 to 2 dollars during Cedar Camp efforts. local camp numbers reach about 120 with plans to raise a degree team for the state convention in April.
Mr H L Pugh III of Hershey Chocolate Company in Boston was summoned by his brother Hol Pugh’s serious condition. He fell ill last week and underwent an appendix operation last Wednesday.
