City Beautiful: Reading Improvement Proposals From Cambridge Artist
A Cambridge landscape artist advised Reading’s Civic Association on twelve steps to improve the city. Proposals include street planning, removing obstructions, annexation, central mall, coordinated public buildings, grade crossing removal, bridge upgrades, open spaces, and preserving natural features as parks. The piece also notes paint’s role in town improvement and a Flushing NY crusade against public spitting led by wealthy women.
