Advise Farmers to Examine Their Trees After Winter Heaving
Foresters in Dauphin County report widespread heaving of last year’s plantation due to an open winter. About half of Japanese Larch and nearly 85 percent of pines show heaving. Farmers are urged to inspect woodlands and reset trees with exposed roots if still viable. Some lightly heaved trees can be pressed back with dirt. Thirty-eight rattlesnakes were sent from Pike County to the New York Zoo.
