The Hershey Chocolate Company leases the Upton Motor Company plant in Lebanon to wrap chocolates. Bulk chocolate arrives to be wrapped and then shipped to dealers. About 300 female employees at the factory wrap chocolates. the Lebanon branch won’t affect existing Hershey staff. Operations begin Monday morning.
In Hershey the town lacks a patrolman though it has many residents. The situation highlights limited law enforcement staffing against a busy community with active public life and frequent gatherings.
Chief George of Harrisburg issues two orders restricting patrolmen chatter on Market street and establishing permanent duty in districts Nos 9 10 and 11. Patrols must stay on duty until relieved, while greeting citizens remains allowed for respect and routine salutes.
The service will be discontinued after the seventh day affecting the vehicles or routes known as Laverstick and Peters. Officials announced the stop will take effect following the seventh day with no further service planned.
The Hershey Y M C A Out-Doors Sports Committee plans an April 23 outdoor meet on the Athletic Field between Harrisburg Technical School and Harrisburg High. Events include sprints, distance runs, relays, hurdles, jumps, and throws, with a silver cup as prize. The effort aims to spark local interest in outdoor sports and build a strong track team.
iHershey notes Curly Maugans now resides in Derry Church with temporary quarters in the Haeffner House parlor. High School boys form an Athletic Association planning a festival Friday April 8 at 6 pm to rally support. Also praised are James K. Putt for cedar bridge work in Hershey Park and Hoffer Bowman for aiding a fire scene near Lickdale with a boiler maker aboard.
