Set Registration For Opening Of Evening School
The Hershey Evening School is set to open October 5 under the name The School of Opportunities with an eight month term until March 31 1955 Registration for evening classes is Thursday September 30 from seven to nine p m at the high school cafeteria Classes mainly on Tuesday and Thursday evenings cover standard high school courses home economics commercial subjects hobbies and vocational work George D Lange Hershey High School principal heads standard evening work Vocational Director Raymond F Evans oversees all other courses A four dollar registration fee applies and non residents of Derry Township may attend. The notice continues on page two. The event at Hershey Stadium featured a State Police Mounted Exhibition with horses dogs and clowns drawing thousands of children and families in a free safety promotion show with performances Friday and Saturday evenings.

Optimist Club Charter Set For Hershey Event
The Hershey Optimist Club plans a day long Charter Party to celebrate its charter in Hershey with 600 guests. Park Golf Club hosts tours and a duffers golf tournament before a dinner ceremony. Organized June 2, the club was sponsored by Harrisburg and Lebanon groups.

About 70 Hershey Foremen Club members and wives attended the Pennsylvania Industrial and Construction Exposition at the State Farm Show Building in Harrisburg Monday. Allen Lingle presided as president. Evelyn Ay, 1954 Miss America, and George Smeltzer greeted guests.

State Police Rodeo Draws Largest Crowd at Hershey Stadium
The Friday afternoon free kid friendly rodeo in Hershey Stadium drew 24 000 attendees, including students and parents, with proceeds benefiting the police pension fund. Willie the clown and a trick auto thrilled the crowd while balloon aerial acts featured. evening shows drew more families as teachers and youngsters filled the stands.

Gumpher Named 1954 Derry Community Chest Chair
Jo seph S. Gumpher will chair the 1954 Community Chest drive for Derry Township. He is assistant treasurer of the Hershey Trust Company and treasurer of Derry Presbyterian Church building fund. Gumpher serves as vice president of Hershey Optimist Club and is a World War II Navy veteran. He is a Milton Hershey School graduate and has attended Hershey Junior College and Rutgers Graduate School of Banking. He is married to Mary Scott and has daughter Susan.
