The Derry Township PTA announces a three-division Halloween parade through town on October 31 starting at 6 30 pm. Local businesses fund prizes with judging at Hershey High School and rain plans keep events indoors if needed.
Hershey Junior College will hold a model presidential election on November 5 run by the Inter-Collegiate Conference on Government with Prof. William Schmehl as advisor. The exercise aims to teach government science and will involve the student body voting for President Vice President and U S Senator.
Voters in Derry Township will decide on November 6 whether to adopt voting machines for future elections. The local ballot will include a special item asking approval of the switch from paper ballots to machines. If approved the county will purchase the machines and provide demonstrations in each district before they are used.
A Sunday afternoon survey in Hershey and nearby areas will collect church affiliations from local families. Sponsored by the Hershey Ministerium, twenty five census takers from participating churches will cover Hershey proper and Palmdale Swatara Station Mountain View Union Deposit and Sand Beach. Reverend Kermit N. Lloyd chairs the project and seminarians from Lancaster will participate. results will be shared with the churches. Census takers will meet next Tuesday at 8 PM in the Community Building Little Theatre to review mechanics and districting.
Parade formation lists groups including Pennsylvania State Police Mounted Group as parade marshal. First Division features Officers of Parent Teacher Association Board of School Directors Board of Supervisors Hershey Chocolate Corporation Hershey Estates Milton Hershey School Band Hershey Lions Club. Second Division includes Stansfield Family Mounted Group Hershey School Cadet Band and marchers. Third Division covers Hershey High School Band Service Club Floats Fire Company and Equipment.
