Hershey National Bank reports Christmas Club checks total 187 658 50 issued to 1 950 accounts this year, up from 183 064 50 in 1954. Officials say growth came from larger individual accounts, not more members, with 1956 starting December 1. Some funds go to nest eggs and other accounts like insurance or mortgages.
The Hershey Volunteer Fire Company's Marching Club held a banquet for Hershey High's football team. Rev. Auiance F. Shank of Harrisburg spoke on sportsmanship and leadership under the theme You Have to Have the Best, citing college athletes as examples.
Frank Edris, display manager at Hershey Department Store, began in 1917 at age two and has helped shape Hershey's history through decorating anniversaries, Ice Follies paintings, and window and interior trim. He lives in Palmyra with wife Violet, two sons, and a grandson, and has roots dating to Lebanon.
