The Hershey Community Club starts a Learn To Swim program at its pool for Palmyra Hummelstown and Hershey third and fourth graders. Free lessons run this week for Palmyra 10 to 11 a m daily and Hummelstown 11 to noon. Non members eligible through June 15. Hershey boys begin June 11 9 to 10 a m. Club members start June 11 at 1 p m through June 22.

John Leroy Pfirman is named teacher of health and physical education and head basketball coach at Milton Hershey School, succeeding Ned Linta who resigned. Harold Hacker will assist with the varsity squad. Pfirman, Williamsport High School and Penn State graduate, served as a bombardier and armament officer in the Pacific Theater flying 42 combat missions.

Five Retiring Workers End 127 Years Of Hershey Service

Shiffer of Palmyra retired after 47 years, started in 1909, and plans Red Cross first aid classes and hunting season. Thomas A. Basti served 35 years, began in roasting almonds and worked in multiple departments, living at 201 West Granada Avenue with wife Anna and four sons.
