Negotiations Stall as San Antonio Symphony Votes Strike
After over three hours of talks failed to yield a new contract, the 83-member San Antonio Symphony faced a 6 p.m. strike vote jeopardizing tonight’s performance by flutist Jean Pierre Rampal and a Monday Rampal recital and Tuesday Itzhak Perlman concert. The musicians union, led by Johnny Estrada, pressed for salary and benefits parity, while management cited budget limits and a balanced plan to retire a $1.3 million debt. The union’s 73-1 Friday vote preceded Saturday’s final vote, with no further meetings planned.
