Saintly Mother Elizabeth Aukland Remembered in Henry County
Elizabeth Aukland wife of the late Thomas Aukland died at Thayer Iowa September 14 1911 after visiting her son in law J R Jacksons home. Born September 16 1832 in Lawrence County Ohio she moved to Illinois in 1852 with her parents married March 10 1853 and bore eleven children six daughters and three sons survive. A devoted Methodist worker for about 50 years she helped build Center church in Whitefield and supported church and social life. Her funeral was in Whitefield with Rev O T Dwinell and Rev R J Vandervoort officiating. Her descendants number 56 in the list of 83 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The article closes with a public health note urging cleanliness to guard against typhoid fever.
