Supreme Court to rule on Swain steamboat clash with B and Q

Springfield papers filed Tuesday before the Illinois Supreme Court in the case David Swain & Sons vs. Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railway. Swain seeks damages for lost river navigation above La Salle tied to a low bridge that blocks steamboats heading to Starved Rock and a hoped state park. The case has drawn wide interest as a test of navigability rights and public access for a landmark river region.

Chester Bidwell entertaining nephew Roy Allen and wife from Pontiac, and Mrs Albert Allen of Pontiac as guest. Paul Burkhart returning to Henry for school. parents Henry and Mrs Burkhart moving back from Blue Island to Henry in October. Mrs L Griswold to spend winter in California with Mr and Mrs G M Clark. The Labor Day Sparland ball game report overlooked. Henry Cubs beat Sparland-Lacon 8 to 7. 47th annual Marshall County Sunday school convention held at Toluca with Rev McLeish, Rev Burger, Rev Vivian among speakers. A wreck near Henry as switch engine 105 derailed on the Peoria Branch. no one hurt, repairs and detours described. Mrs Clara Snyder suffered a hip dislocation at the Central Illinois conference in Peoria and was treated at Deaconess hospital. Lawton Oklahoma’s Illinois Day picnic noted with speeches by Judge Franklin Rev Spicer and music by Illinois Day quartet. Virgil Virgin Vale of Henry plans to study law at the University of Michigan.

Emancipation Apostle Lundy Urged for Grave Shaft

Granville Echo notes Benjamin Lundy, pioneer abolitionist born 1789 in New Jersey and buried in Putnam county, deserves a lasting memorial. Victor Murdock visited the grave, promising to campaign for an appropriate shaft to honor his memory and work against slavery.

The Peoria papers publish the M. E. Conference appointments for the coming year. Rev. R. L. Vivian is reassigned to Henry for a third year. Church Activities Announce Sunday Schedule and Meetings

Illinois Valley series postpones three games on muddy grounds

The first three games of the nine game series among Peru Chillicothe and Henry for the Illinois Valley championship were postponed due to heavy rain and a muddy field. They will be played in Henry in October with Chillico scheduled for next Sunday. Peru and Henry travel by boat, leaving Henry at 11 15.
