Cornelius Tanquary, Esteemed Community Leader Passes
Cornelius Tanquary died Tuesday morning after weeks of illness. A Marshall County resident since 1835, he was a farmer, auctioneer, and longtime M E church member. He served on the board of supervisors and held township trusts. Funeral at Bethel church Breuben township with interment in Sparland Cemetery.

Ottawa party survives river misadventure at Henry dam
A party of eight Ottawa residents aboard the launch Ninawa encountered engine trouble and were stranded near Henry dam. After backing off the dam wall they drifted along and tied up at the Camp House for the night, then continued to Peoria before returning to Ottawa. One man suffered a finger injury and another became nauseated. a physician was called and a swig of Old Kentucky helped ease the group. Most participants are tied to King Hamilton & Co., Ottawa.

The Putnam County Republican Convention nominated Henry Comills for County Judge, Geo F Stanton for County Clerk, Joseph Cecil for Sheriff, and D B Turner for Surveyor, with a slate including C B Dagger for Treasurer and George W Hunt for Superintendent. Putnam county Republicans met at the courthouse in Hennepin to nominate candidates for county offices. Joseph L B Albert opened the meeting, with A J Robinson named temporary chair and W B Mills temporary secretary. Delegates from Granville Magnolia and Senachwine elected a credentials committee, affirmed their lists, and authorized each delegation to cast its full vote. After initial ballots for County Judge, McNabb and Thornton withdrew, a second ballot produced no nomination.
