Peoria Auto Club invites all to grand opening at Columbia Park

Directors of the new Peoria Automobile Club plan a Labor Day opening near Chillicothe. The club house at Columbia Park will open to the public next Monday with “good eats” and dancing all day. The event aims to attract both members and nonmembers to support road improvements from Peoria to the club house.

Double Wedding Lights Up Marshall County Court House

In Marshall County a double wedding took place at the county capitol after the clerk’s office opened on Monday. R E Gustavison and Florence Steinborn of Peoria Heights joined H Freld Norton of Jeffersonville Indiana and Elda French of Milwaukee Wisconsin in matrimony, with Rev W J Calhoun performing the ceremony. The scene drew officials and deputies to witness the union as they celebrated at the garden of love venue run by Dr Gray in Prospects Heights road, Peoria. The couples then departed after receiving blessings.

Joseph N. Krenz of this city passed the 78th milestone of life on Tuesday August 31. He has run a long business career, serving as partner with his father, and for 56 years a business man here with public service as mayor, alderman, treasurer, and fire department chief. He holds high public esteem for an upright life and received birthday tributes from friends.

Interesting Souvenirs Testify Courage and Loyalty

Evans last Friday drove out the beautiful country home of Carrie Sparling and enjoyed a visit with that lady and her sister Miss Pet Bagley. Papers shown pertain to Mrs Sparling's deceased husband's long and valiant Civil War service as a member of the 113th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Sparling was wounded, discharged, and re-enlisted in the 189th regiment during the 100 days service. The President's thanks and certificate of honorable service to Corporal George E. Sparling were signed by Abraham Lincoln and Edwin M Stanton. The collection includes a battlefield portfolio, knapsack, canteen, heavy gray army blankets, a Canadian land lease over 100 years old signed by a St Regis chief and Frenchmen, and a bound volume of The Methodist Episcopal Magazine.

New School Year Opens With Record Enrollment

The school opens with the largest pupil count in years. High school has 80 students with 40 freshmen. eighth grade 19. fifth room 37. fourth 39. third 35. second 22. first 23. Janitor Lester Knight ensures clean, ventilated facilities and fresh water. Boston Ivy on the grounds was pruned last spring. High school matches feature Grace Hartley. Miss Worley returns to visit. Miss Marion B Comstock, a University of Chicago graduate, succeeds her. New principal Miss Panzer has the school in good order. Editorial staff includes Helen McKenzie, Marion Bickerman, Grace Hartley, Raymond Swiger. German and English classes active.
