Congress approved a $12 000 appropriation secured by Rep Graff to dig a canal at Depue Bureau county linking Lake Depue with the Illinois river creating a steamboat channel. Junior Engineer J R Fuller leads a fleet including two steamboats a dredge three mud es they when ready will serve La Salle and Peoria Packet Co boats setting navigation for spring.
