Burial for Frances Janice Green at Henry Cemetery

The three year old Frances Janice Green of Tacoma Wash died from accidental drowning at American Lake on September 18 1917. Her remains were shipped to Henry for burial and a funeral was held November 17 at 2 pm conducted by Rev G E Tilton. The family and many friends attended as the child was laid to rest. Her father is a second lieutenant at American Lake training camp and the mother plans to move to Henry after his departure for France. Sunday Evening Mass Meeting at the Opera House

A large audience attended the Sunday evening union meeting at the opera house with a strong choir led by H. Andrews and Miss Lucy Mateer. Rev. Rea W. County Superintendent Edgar Nichols praised the war effort and pledges reached $400 with total receipts of $1,017.40 by Monday.

Illinois Day Observance Urges Statewide Celebration

Chicago Illinois, Oct 27 1917 The Illinois committee of the Chicago Association of Commerce seeks county and town observances on December 3 1917 as Illinois Day to promote the centennial of statehood in 1918. The governor is to issue a proclamation and communities large and small are urged to participate with local or joint observances. The Illinois Centennial commission will coordinate efforts with the state, and the Chicago association offers assistance for widespread turnout.

Farewell Surprise Party At Mrs Grover Home

Members of the Helping Hand class of the Presbyterian Sunday school surprised Mrs. Martin at the parsonage after gathering at Mrs. Grover in Kirby. The class presented a souvenir spoon with a church image to mark her departure to a new home in Henry.
