A condensed week’s roundup reports promotions for straighter pretzels after July 1, requests property owners trim hanging tree limbs, and notes war memories among returning soldiers. It covers school events, weather, health, and a village meeting of the W C T U with social and civic items.
About 150 attendees, including spouses, gathered at the Henry opera house for the Alumni association luncheon and reception honoring the 1919 graduating class. Charles Green was elected president with officers elected for the coming year, as music by Webster's orchestra and performances by a girls' quartet complemented the social program.
Readout lists seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen with marks in deportment. Miss Belle Doyle hosted the Kantalkenuf Klub last Monday. Vera May delivered a parcel with silver service and rhyming gifts for the hostess. A two course luncheon followed and the group celebrated her upcoming move with best wishes.
The first annual Beginners day for six year olds was held in the primary room. A class day program by seniors occurred May 29 in the high school auditorium. Church services featured Children’s Day activities at Presbyterian, with a gate arc and white-costumed children. Notices praise Mrs. Lofgren and Miss Schmitt for support, honor Miss Sadie Collins, and recall school and church events and farewells.
Last Thursday afternoon Lookout Mountain W R C No 2 held an indoor picnic at Mrs Henry Morse home with Mrs Lenora Ellis as assistant hostess. The decorated room displayed flags and a General Pershing picture. Readings on Friendship, a conundrum contest, Pathe music, and a cafeteria luncheon were enjoyed by members and eleven guests.
This week at the Henry opera house Manager ONeill presents Paramounts new film One More American starring George Beban with Helen Eddy Camille Ankewich Raymond Hatton Jack Holt and others. Written and directed by William C DeMille, scenario by Olga Printzlau. Show tomorrow Friday June 13.
Mrs George A Burt enjoyed a visit from her mother and brother Will from Princeton last Friday. G M Lombard sold his grocery store at Camp Grove to King & O'Brien and Ed Cain will run it. Aurora borealis lit the sky last week. Dr McBroom leaves Camp Grove for Dunlap. Deputy Circuit Clerk John Helm returns home from hospital in Lacon. Lewistown teams pull cars from mud. A printer notes the perils of typesetting. Memorial services at Lacon list numerous soldier graves in local cemeteries. Road closure on Galena road affects Mossville to Peoria travel. Memorial park favored for future services to accommodate more people. Miss Hettie Hoyt of Chicago visits Henry to oversee Hoyt Cemetery. Hoyt family graves number near fifty. Hoyt ties remain strong in Henry. Miss Hoyt visits with Mrs B H Hutchins. Hoyt kin spread to Chicago and elsewhere. Mrs Penfield in New York. her husband is a noted musician and composer.
