Judge Clyde E. Stone defeated Democrat C. Craig for the state supreme bench from the fifth judicial district by about 3500 votes. Stone carried eight of ten counties, with Bureau and LaSalle voting for Craig. The race followed a volatile judicial convention at Peoria where Craig’s supporters left in protest.

Centennial Celebration of Fulinois School Program
An Illinois centennial celebration was held at the Henry school last Friday afternoon in May. Pioneers Indians and fur traders opened the program followed by a historical school scene and scenes of the Black Hawk era. A modern era finale featured a Liberty goddess, flag, and Boy Scouts with Red Cross banners as songs were performed. Eighth graders Lauretta Sigber Fern Latourette and others received diplomas and writing prizes. A long reminiscence by Miss Louise Helper traced Henry’s early history from 1830 onward, detailing settlers, the first schoolhouse in 1846, and the development of local education through the 19th century.
