Sparland and Speer Community Notes in July 1917
Sparland and Speer areas report visits from Delaven and Henry residents, church events, social gatherings, outdoor entertainments, a Red Cross benefit, a lawn social, and local club meetings. Travel, family visits, garden work, and a flood of local notices fill the week with church activities, picnics, and a county-wide interest in education and public service.

Thirteen Months Plan Stirring Debate On Calendar Reform
Calendar reformers push for a thirteen month year with four week months and a world holiday. The plan would start each period on a Sunday with holidays on Monday or Wednesday, aiming to fix irregular month lengths and reduce calendar confusion. The US Bureau of Commerce and allies including Switzerland and Britain endorse revising reckoning, while a humorous anecdote contrasts with public interest.
