Chauffeur slain by bandits on lonely highway near La Salle
Josep Derix, chauffeur for the Central Garage in La Salle, was killed by two bandits on a remote Bureau County road six miles northwest of La Salle. He had been hired for a trip to Ladd with two men said to come from Chicago. His body showed two bullet wounds and was found Tuesday morning by farmer John Hahn. The attackers fled with the car after aborting the plan to meet a Rock Island train, and investigators believe Derix died bravely in a struggle. The Central Garage, run by Mrs Guella Stever and managed by Cr Snyder, employed Derix and arranged the outing.
