Rev. L G Landenberger outlined the December sermon at New Jerusalem temple on Why Are You Not a Christian. He pressed personal call to follow Christ, addressing head and heart objections and urging conversion for a life of happiness, honesty, and usefulness.
The Junior League received thanks for a Christmas candy box to Deaconess Orphanage at Lake Bluff. Sickness and losses touch several families, with prayers for comfort. Prof Baer will not sing next Sabbath, and Rev Charles Worthington bids farewell before sailing to England then Borneo for seven years. Sunday school, Lord's supper, and league services listed.
The Ladies Aid of the Christian church announces a tea to be given by Mrs L V Smith and Mrs Wm Knight at Mrs Knight's home on January 19. The Ladies Aid will serve lunch at the J L Feaster sale on January 22 in Magnolia township. This Sunday January 16 is Educational Day with a plea for all officers and Sunday school to attend and join the contest as the Sunday school numbers grow. Sympathy is expressed to those in bereavements and sickness.
The New Jerusalem temple will host Rev. L G Lindenberger for the second sermon in a course on The True Christian, Individual Responsibility and Privilege with the subject Why Are You Not Baptized. At 11 am the second discourse on The Correspondence will cover Earth, Water, Minerals and Metals. Holy communion will be celebrated. The First National Bank of Henry held its annual meeting on Tuesday Jan 11 with directors Charles R. Jones O P Carroll L F Law T L Jones and C M Jones. The Henry National Bank reports directors for the year J Watercott C A Camp A G Humphrey L R Phillips Albert Stickel P Turner and Frank Yanochowski. Officers elected were President J Watercott Vice President C A Camp Cashier L R Phillips Assistant Cashier Benj Hoyle.
A school assignment about Quakers yields a humorous result. The boy writes that Quakers never quarrel or fight and never answer back, then confesses uncertainty about his mother. The piece notes his father is a Quaker and emphasizes the boy’s innocent misunderstanding.
Elijah S. Camery born April 16 1835 near Mount Vernon Knox County Ohio died January 9 1910 aged 74 years 8 months 24 days. Married May 17 1865 to Isabella Brown he left six children four living two dead. Known as Doc for his veterinary days and later carpentering in Henry. Funeral Tuesday at M B church Pastor R L Vivian officiated, interment Henry Cemetery under Northern Illinois Co operative Burial Association. Survivors include wife four children two sisters and three brothers.
The Atchinson Globe reports William Salisbury Sr. near the depot stricken with paralysis, Roger Rowe and others ill with pneumonia, rheumatism and heart trouble, plus mumps and nervous prostration. A sensational Card to the Women accuses a wife of losing Affection and invites a otherwoman to claim her husband, ending with a public invitation to take him for Christmas money.
Jack invites a joy ride in his aeroplane but Miss de Witte objects, calling it a skylark rather than a simple outing, in a playful exchange.
Albert N Tyler of Larned Kansas writes from January 9 1910 recalling Mary L Boice J C Moodey and the Henry community he encounters across California and the West He notes aging local figures many have passed away and shares a cordial round of visits with Calvin Moodey J G Moodey and Mary Boice reflecting on reunion and travel memories.
Miss Pearl Huffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Huffman, resigned her Granville school position at Christmas and married Eugene Liljequist of Rockford on December 29. The Granville Echo comments on the board of education rule prohibiting marriage within the school year and debates whether her move was prudent or opportunistic.
Mrs Oscar Hill hosted the Woman's Club replacing Mrs Williams due to a cold venue change. With Miss Waughop absent the First Vice President Mrs Samuel Clift led the meeting and the group discussed business. Mrs Spencer Ketchum delivered an essay on the Science of Home Making followed by a discussion. Mrs W S Hannum read A Parable or Lifes Journey. A light luncheon ended the gathering with Mrs Rev Vivian as guest.

Red Cross stamps fundraising tops $500,000 nationally. Dr W A Crooks named Watertown hospital superintendent, with prior acting duties noted. Also covered are community clubs, R N A lodge installations, Merry-Go-Round gathering, and Rock Island testing new monster freight engines and 00 series passenger engines showing strong speed and power.

Albert Wimer and Allena Johnson wed at the M B church parsonage in Peoria with Lillian Wimer as bridesmaid and Charles B Johnson as groomsman before heading to Moline for their home. Anton Wolf and Julia Merdian unite at St Marys Church Henry with Michael Wolf as groomsman and Mayme Merdian as bridesmaid. Receptions follow with dresses, bouquets, and gifts as friends extend best wishes.
The high school announces a minstrel show rescheduled due to stage limits. Henry Auto Co. garage now hosts seating for 400 with Mrs. Anna Culter Hall directing and rumors calling it the best yet.
