The New Year brings the death of Mrs Hiram Hunter from a paralysis stroke at 3 am on January 1 after returning from a relative's wedding in Marseilles. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church with a large audience, floral tributes, and a lengthy procession to the cemetery.

Yesterday at St Josephs Catholic church the marriage of Harry Klein and Mayme Bell was celebrated with a Lohengrin march and a full wedding party. The couple will reside on the Clawson farm and begin housekeeping after a short Galesburg visit. Also a ceremony in Rockford united Pearl Huffman and Prof EB Liljequist as they prepare for a future in Henry Illinois with the bride’s family sending best wishes.
Nellie Coan serves as pianist this week while Mr Barry and Dr Cromwell visit the high school on Wednesday forenoon. Absences rose due to the Bell and Klein wedding and the Hun ter family bereavement. Ralph Brown and Grover Kern return after a week away for ice cutting. Meta Lassman has rejoined after visiting Kansas with her grandmother. Students plan a grand review this week and three days next week before semister exams. A minstrel show is slated for January 21 at the high school house.
A New Year’s Day gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Seelye in Whitefield. Despite inclement weather, many residents, including Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Bell and daughter Edna, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Seelye and daughter Ethel, Mr. and Mrs. Norton Moffitt and son Hugh, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Finley and children Opal and George, Charles Bourdette, Mrs. Culver, Mrs. Elizabeth Aukland, and Mr. Funston, attended and enjoyed a substantial meal prepared by Mrs. Seelye.

Mrs D C Peters aged 65 died Sunday at her Springport Michigan home after a long illness. Funeral was held at her house Tuesday with Rev A A Geiger of Marshall officiating. Burial followed in Springport cemetery. She was born Rachel Elizabeth Sheldon Sept 20 1874 in Parma Jackson County. She married Dewitt Clinton Peters March 5 1867 and had seven children. Her eldest daughter Loda died at 15. She endured years of suffering with grace and was devoted to family. Her father Elmer Sheldon once owned the John Galvin farm west of Putnam and many relatives still live nearby.
Rachel German Shields born December 7 1825 in Zanesville Ohio died January 1 1910 at age 84 with 25 days. She married Calvin Shields December 1 1844. he died in 1901. Survived by four sons John Henry Marshall Robert Evelyn and ten grandchildren and siblings. A longtime Putnam County resident she joined the M E B church as a child and lived a devout Christian life. Funeral held at her home led by Rev R L Vivian with a large cortege to Caledonia cemetery. twenty two sleigh loads attended despite cold weather.
James Ho ward Durflinger aged 20 son of Mr and Mrs D R Durflinger died January 3 after appendicitis following illness while fishing down the river. Born June 21 1889 in Washburn Woodford County Illinois he leaves parents four brothers and four sisters and a infant brother prior to the service held at the Presbyterian church with Rev Burger officiating. Burial at Henry cemetery pallbearers Earl Bauter Oscar Clark Ora Baker Frank Hartley Walter Green Robert Tumey undertaker A B Smith. The Christian Church reports strong Sunday attendance and two discourses. A Sunday school contest continues with many buttons distributed. Officers were elected for the Aid Society and coming year. a luncheon followed. An Aid tea is planned January 19 at Mrs. Knight’s home.

Condolences offered to Mrs Hiram Hunter's family after her death, with services attended last Monday.
