Mrs Nicholson Dies in Wisconsin After Short Illness

Mrs Frederick Nicholson nee Jenne Babin Nicholson of Edmonston New Brunswick died in Walworth Wisconsin on February 14 1912 at 730 pm after eight days of pneumonia She was 27 and survived by her husband Dr Fred J Nicholson and son George Treacy born April 23 1911 A funeral was held in Walworth and a second service at the Nicholson home on Market Street Joliet with Episcopal rites.

Supreme Court Refuses Rehearing in Sanitary District Case

The Illinois Supreme Court denied a rehearing in Jones vs Sanitary District of Chicago. Jones had won $6,250 for timber and farm damage and $3,000 in attorney fees, due to overflow from the canal. The ruling allows annual damages and supports landowners against overflow. Attorneys Warren Pease and Ralph E. Bacon are involved in similar suits in Chicago.

The February wedding at St Marys Catholic Church joined Joseph Schlosser and Emma Mary Linderer with Rev Fr Gensler performing a nuptial high mass. Attendants included Henry Schlosser and many relatives and friends. The couple plan a farm near Varna after a honeymoon.

Two Minor Fires and Washington Birthday Party

Two small fires caused little damage in separate homes. At Charles McManus on School street a gas stove leak sparked a blaze that neighbors extinguished with a bucket of water. John Morse’s chimney fire outside the city limits was doused by Wesley Doyle, Taylor Smith, and neighbors with no hydrants available. Washington Birthday party at Alderman Dille’s home featured a women-only euchre then husbands’ surprise visit, patriotic decor, a Johnnie and the Circus recitation, and a formal luncheon with toasts and songs.

Reverend Reichel Delivers Acts Series Finale Next

The Christian Church reports Rev H C Reichel finished his Acts sermons and will begin a new series titled God the Creator focusing on divine love in creation. The Ladies Aid will meet next Wednesday with Mrs Wim Knight and Mrs Roy Bauter serving. Albert Stickel was re elected elder and William Merritt re elected deacon for three years each. The church extends sympathy to the Duffield family after a funeral held last Sunday in Henry.

Women’s Club meeting honors Long Beach views and books

Monday afternoon February 19 Mrs A Shorts hosted the Women’s club in her Parlor. President Mrs S A Clift opened the session and a letter from Mrs J S Townsend about Long Beach California was read. Mrs A Stevens spoke on books while Mrs A Hendrick and Mrs Charlotte Sparling led discussion. Guests included Mesdames Blackwell and Andrews. The district president was delayed and will attend in two weeks.

Surprise Birthday Party at Welmer Home

A surprise party honored Mrs. Welmer on her 65th birthday at the Welmers' home on Thursday evening February 15. Planned by her daughter Ms H H Hall, friends and relatives arrived while she was away, bringing a supper and gifts from near and far including Petaluma California.
