Sparland High Fire Destroys Building and High School Losses
A Sparland school building was gutted by fire trapping students as principal Bouton led evacuations through smoke. The blaze destroyed two organs, bookcases, a $200 laboratory and teaching charts. The district survived. plans for a possible new building and potential consolidation with nearby districts are discussed. Thirteen graduates listed with noted achievements in higher education.

Law Miss Lucy Wood of Marinette Wis and Mrs John Hodge of Venona Hearts dominated the evening with heart shaped invitations cards and prizes for most and least hearts A guessing contest offered four prizes for sentimental quotations on red hearts Refreshments featured heart shaped chicken aspic tinted ice cream and confections with Cupid motifs all praised Miss Law as a charming hostess.

Church and Clergy Notes From Local Churches
The Woman's Catholic League was entertained by Mrs George Daniels on Tuesday eve. The Presbyterian church plans a fine supper in the parlors on the eve of Feb 22. Rev Fr Zumbuehl of St Mary's officiated at St Joseph's last Sunday in Rev Fr Kniery's absence. The M B church league and Sunday school meet next Sunday but no preaching due to the pastor's illness. No church service at the Christian church last Sunday as Rev Nichols attended family illness in Rock Island. Presbyterian music is planned for the England supper next Wednesday eve. The Ladies Aid of the M E church meets at Mrs L R Phillips on Wednesday Feb 22 at 2 30 p m. All 8d division members urged to attend. Next Sunday Roy Mason speaks on What it costs not to be a Christian after delivering a recent sermon on What it costs to be a Christian.

Longtime Henry Builder R K Warner Dies at 79
Rensselaer K Warner aged 78 or 79 died Tuesday morning after a long illness. A prominent Henry resident for 54 years he served as township assessor and built grain elevators for the Rock Island System. Born March 25 1826 he came to Henry in 1851 and fought in the Civil War joining Company BH 42nd Indiana. He leaves a wife two sons and two daughters. Funeral at Main Street residence Thursday afternoon at 2 30 conducted by Rev W H Mason with interment in Henry cemetery.

B 77th Illinois, he worked as a harness maker and leaves a wife Elizabeth Squires, two sons and a daughter. Also noted is the passing of Mrs Samuel Holmes at 89 in Henry. funeral at New Jerusalem church Saturday at 2:30 pm with visitation Friday afternoon.

George Burt Stricken by Pleurisy During Dinner
George Burt senior editor of The Republican fell ill with pleurisy last Sunday while dining. Severe right side pain caused vomiting and sickness, with chills and fever. Dr Swem treated him. pain subsided in an hour and he has since been bedbound, slowly improving and resting at home.
