Mrs Mary Frances Hunter Riddle of 1905 Obituary
Mrs Mary Frances Hunter wife of Robert Hunter died after a three week illness at the family home near the depot on February 7 1905 aged 47 years 8 months and 8 days. She was born June 4 1857 in Manlius Illinois and lived in Nevada Iowa before moving to Tiskilwa. She married Edwin R Hunter in 1877, had four children, widowed in 1886, remarried Robert Hunter in 1889 producing two more children who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband and several brothers and sisters. A devout M E church member and a longtime Henry Chapter O E S member, she was active in church and community life. Funeral services were held at the home in the city, and burial will be in Tiekilwa cemetery next to her first husband’s family.

Last Thursday the thermometer read 20 below zero and a morning train from Chicago to Bureau arrived late after exhausting steam. A 5:26 p.m. run between Sparland and Henry lost a left wheel flange, forcing repairs by Peoria mechanics overnight. A Friday 6:45 a.m. horse collision near Ran som crossing killed seven of eight, injuring others. An Averyville incident saved a Peoria-bound train when a driving rod broke, leaving it derailed but passengers safe as crews repaired the engine.

J R Belsly of Richland presided well. Next year’s officers are Ex Postmaster Skinner president Fred Thierry vice president and Mrs John Shields secretary treasurer. The Varna institute will be held next winter at a date to be announced. Also Friday night Henry High School basketball hosts Péoria High School with a girls game and a mixed event at the Opera House with admission 25 cents.
